Every fall, my wife and I go apple picking, and invariably pick more apples than we know what to do with. A couple of years ago, we decided to make some of those apples into pie filling which we pressure canned and preserved. What we wound up with were jars of lightly baked apples in a kind of juice, spiced with all the delicious spices one would find in an apple pie. We liked it so much, we just forgot about making pie and ate the apples out of the jar. Homeward is reminiscent of this flavor – lightly baked apples, bakery cinnamon and spices. The cinnamon flavor in this acts the same sort of way the Icicles on Snowdrift does – it’s not to be taken lightly, but once you get to the underlying flavor, you find nothing else will quite satisfy you.
